Nevada State Historical Preservation Month

June 7
HSDV is sponsoring a Memorial Ceremony for Pvt. Scott Carnal
During January’s History Moment we learned of Civil War Veteran, Pvt. Scott Carnal who is buried in our Cemetery.  He served in Company K, the 79th US Colored Infantry and fought in the U.S. Civil War. He passed away in 1917.
    Research has shed light on his military history including that he was seriously wounded by enemy fire at Battle of Honey  Springs, Indian Territory (Oklahoma), July 1863.   Exactly how he came to be buried in Dayton, NV is somewhat vague; however, research suggests it’s unlikely he was given an appropriate ceremony or gratitude for his service.  Meet @ 2pm at his burial site in the Dayton Cemetery, located on Cemetery Road (which is an “up the hill” extension of Main Street), old Town Dayton.
Joining with us:
Ghost Soldiers Motorcycle Club-Chapters 1 & 2;
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War –
Gen. Wm. Passmore Carlin Camp #25;
Nevada Civil War Veterans and
War Veteran’s Memorial Association of
Western Nevada.
